Our History

First Baptist Church of Georgetown was established by thirteen people in August of 1967. Their first meeting was held in the Midland Grange Hall on Race Street. In December, the church voted in Albert Jewell as their first pastor and became known as the Community Bible Church.

In July of 1968, the church members purchased thirty acres on Dupont Blvd, and began construction. The first service was held on Thanksgiving Day that year, and they soon became known as First Baptist Church of Georgetown.

In 1979, Pastor Jewell resigned, and the church voted in Rod Dufour as their new pastor. He and his wife, Carol, served faithfully for 35 years, until Pastor Dufour retired in 2015. Upon their retirement, Woody Bates became the new pastor. Pastor Woody, his wife, Pam, and their four children currently serve the people at FBC.

Throughout the history of First Baptist, the Lord has allowed our church to influence many lives through various ministries, to include a Christian school, bus ministry, Sunday school classes, music ministry, special meetings, and world-wide missions.

The Word of God continues to be preached, souls continue to be saved, and God’s people continue to be faithful. God has blessed First Baptist Church greatly, and we give Him all the glory!
